The Office of Minority Recruitment and Retention and the Office of International Students

With a focus on diversity and social justice, the UW College of Education Office of Minority Recruitment and Retention is committed to equity and access for all students.

  • Increasing the enrollment of students from historically underrepresented minority groups

  • Increasing the retention and graduation rates of students from historically underrepresented minority groups

  • Fostering an excellent and equitable educational and social learning environment that provides a welcoming and supportive climate for all College of Education students, faculty, and staff

  • Engaging, building, and maintaining the College of Education in meaningful relationships across the UW campuses and in our local, regional, and national communities

Recruitment Support: Our office specializes in providing support to prospective student of color applicants applying to the College of Education.

Our goal is to help demystify the graduate application process by providing:

  • Pre-application consultations to answer questions about the application process.

  • Help prospective students define their academic goals and research interests and match their interests with the appropriate program area and faculty specializations.

  • Connect prospective students with current graduate students of color to get inside information about student life and the academic research from a student already integrated in the experience.

Student Retention: Bringing people together in a supportive and nurturing space is at the core of build community among our diverse community. 

  • We have a series of events throughout the year: quarterly student potlucks, weekly coffee hour gatherings, and informational luncheons.

  • Provide peer-to- peer academic and personal support.
