Prospective Student Days 2009

Presented by University of Washington Graduate Opportunities & Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP) and the College of Education

Congratulations on your offer of admission to the UW College of Education (COE)! Admitted prospective graduate students are invited to participate in COE & GO-MAP Prospective Student Days 2009, a series of events -- including a COE information breakfast and reception and numerous events sponsored by the UW Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP) – that will help you get acquainted with the College of Education and the University of Washington.

During Prospective Student Days, you will have several opportunities to network with students and faculty from the College of Education and various other departments and to learn about funding, housing, campus climate, and living in Seattle.

Informal breakfast for students to meet; you will receive information about PSD planned activities. Financial aid, housing, and fellowships & assistantships office representatives will be available to answer your questions.

10:00-11:00 a.m. GO-MAP Campus Walk
UW Main Campus (Meet by Flag Pole in front of Parrington Hall)
You will have the opportunity to speak with current graduate students from similar areas of study and to view different areas of campus.
11:00 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. UW Campus Graduate Housing Tours
Come tour four great places to live! All specifically designed for UW students. If interested, please contact Housing & Food Services at hfsinfo@u.washington.edu or 206-543-4059.

2:00-3:00 p.m. College of Education Program Area Information Sessions

Go to your specific area of study to learn more about your program and to get your questions answered.

What is it REALLY like being a graduate student of color at the UW and living in Seattle? Find out from a panel of current COE students and faculty of color.

11:30-1:30 p.m. GO-MAP Information Luncheon
Ethnic Cultural Center (ECC) – Black Room
You will have the opportunity to ask questions about financial aid, fellowships & assistantships, student opportunities and diversity at UW, campus resources, and living options in Seattle.

2:30-3:30 p.m. GO-MAP Survival Tips for Students of Color: Hearing it from Faculty of Color **
142 Gerberding Hall
Dr. Clarence Spigner, professor in the Health Services Department, will conduct the session. All prospective students, and particularly students of color, are invited to attend a special seminar session.

4:00-5:30 p.m. College of Education Reception
Parrington Commons (308 Parrington Hall)
Meet, mingle, eat, and be merry with current COE students, faculty and staff. Light refreshments.

**Please note: PSD events are open to ALL graduate students, as is the case with all COE events and resources, although this event especially targets ethnic minority and underrepresented graduates students.

For those not able to attend Prospective Student Days, GO-MAP Recruitment Friday is a great opportunity for visiting students to meet GO-MAP staff and graduate diversity recruiters and to receive valuable information about the array of resources, services and opportunities for students in academic and social communities at UW.
