Prospective Student Visitation Days 2012 for Admitted Students”

Many thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit the UW College of Education! As a recently admitted College of Education student, we hope that you enjoy the series of events we have planned, including an information breakfast, a reception, and  numerous events sponsored by the UW Graduate Opportunities & Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP). These events are designed to tell you a bit about the College of Education and its various programs, area specializations, and courses.  In addition,   You will have several opportunities to network with other admitted students, as well as current students and faculty from the COE and various other departments and to learn about funding, housing, campus climate, and living in Seattle. 

For 2012, Prospective Student Days will be held on Thursday, March 29, and Friday, March 30.  The schedule will be very similar to the 2011 schedule, seen below.  The 2012 schedule will be posted by mid-February 2012.  If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Student Services.

8:30-10:00 a.m. GO-MAP Welcome Continental Breakfast
UW Club

Informal breakfast for students to meet; you will receive information about PSD planned activities. Financial aid, housing, and fellowships & assistantships office representatives will be available to answer questions. (This event will have the same information as the GO-MAP Luncheon on Friday.)

10:00-11:00 a.m. GO-MAP Campus Walk
UW Main Campus (Meet at Parrington Hall Flagpole)

Prospective students will have the opportunity to speak with current graduate students from similar areas of study and to view different areas of campus.

2:00-3:00 p.m. College of Education Program Area Information Sessions

Please meet at your specific area of study to learn more about your program:

3:00-4:00 p.m. Strategies for Funding Your Graduate Education

How am I going to pay for my graduate studies? A panel discussion to give you ideas for piecing together the puzzle of funding your graduate education in the College of Ed. Panelist will include representatives from the Graduate School Office of Assistantships and Fellowships, UW Office of Financial Aid, COE Office of Student Services and current College of Ed graduate students who are making it work.

3:00-4:00 p.m. Coffee Lounge co-hosted by the Associated Students of the College of Education (ASCE), Educators for Social Justice (ESJ) and International Educators in the College of Education (IECE)

Prospective students will have the opportunity to ask questions about financial aid, fellowships & assistantships, student opportunities and diversity at UW, campus resources, and living options in Seattle. (This event will have the same information as the GO-MAP Welcome Breakfast on Tursday.)

2:30-3:30 p.m. GO-MAP Survival Tips for Students of Color: Hearing it from Faculty of Color **
Parrington Hall – The Forum (3rd Floor)

Dr. Clarence Spigner, professor in the Health Services Department, will conduct the session. All prospective students, and particularly students of color, are invited to attend a special seminar session.

4:30-6:00 p.m. College of Education Reception
Parrington Hall- Commons (3rd Floor)

Meet, mingle, eat, and be merry with current COE students, faculty and staff. Light refreshments.
