Expansive and hard-working partnerships are essential to realizing our ambitious ideas. For example, the Ackerley School Partnership connects the College of Education to 22 high-need schools in the Seattle area. For the 2009-2010 academic year, we placed almost all of our 129 teacher candidates in these partner schools, reflecting the College’s unwavering commitment to the future of public schools, especially the most disadvantaged.
While research is an important part of our identity, our clinical work is equally important. At the University of Washington's CARE Clinic, clinical and educational psychologists diagnose and treat a range of neurodevelopmental disabilities, from autism and Asperger's syndrome to learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These patients and families are part of a strong community, aimed at supporting people with disabilities.

Working on behalf of high-school learners, Frances Contreras provides a voice for underrepresented communities on the WA Achievement Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee. Governor Christine Gregoire appointed Contreras to the committee, which aims to address the achievement gap in Washington state.
