Conduct research that matters

Tackle rigorous, relevant research with powerful real-world potential.

Our faculty tackle rigorous, relevant research that has the potential to contribute to better classroom experiences, more effective administration, and smarter public policy.

For example, University of Washington researchers—Meredith Honig and Michael Copland—found that by making five key changes central offices in urban school districts have found that by shifting their focus from administration and compliance to improvement of district-wide teaching and learning has resulted in improved instruction. Together they identify practices that deepen the instructional impact of the central office, as detailed in The School Administrator
.

The Norris and Dorothy Haring Center for Applied Research and Training in Education grew out of 40 years of groundbreaking work in special education at the Experimental Education Unit. At the Haring Center, families, researchers, and students work closely on their shared mission of providing inclusive educational services for children with and without disabilities. The Haring Center is proud to be a leader in developing, implementing, evaluating, and disseminating strategies to help all students succeed, all teachers be effective, and all parents feel confident and competent.
