Timothy StandalProfessor in Curriculum and Instruction 122 Miller, Box 353600 |
Reading is the most basic of the basic skills - and the most liberating. The first point is made by the words of a tearful nine year old poor reader, failing and frustrated in all his school subjects, who said, "Reading affects everything you do." The second point is illustrated by the writer of a long ago letter to the editor of the Western Washington University daily, The Western Front, who said, "If they didn't want us to think for ourselves they should never have given us library cards."
