Tom StritikusDean and Professor in Curriculum & Instruction Miller 222, Box 353600 |
Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, 2000
Dr. Tom Stritikus is Dean and Professor at the College of Education at University of Washington. His research examines the political, social, and cultural contexts that shape the education of culturally and linguistically diverse students. Dr. Stritikus’ research is comprised of two related lines of inquiry: research on bilingual education policy and practice; and sociocultural examinations of the immigrant student experience. His collaboration with students, parents, teachers, principals and district and state policymakers has strengthened his commitment to improve educational policies and practices for culturally and linguistically diverse students.
His work has appeared in juried journals aimed at policymakers and researchers interested in bilingual/ESL education (Bilingual Research Journal, International Journal of Bilingualism and Bilingual Education, and Journal of Language, Identity, and Education) and broader audiences of researchers, policymakers, and practitioners (Teachers College Record, Journal of Teacher Education, Educational Policy, and Educational Policy Analysis Archives, American Educational Research Journal). He is the author of the book Immigrant Children and the Politics of English-Only published by LFB Scholarly Publishing and edited by Professors Marcelo and Carola Suarez-Orozco.
A UW faculty member since 2000, Dr. Stritikus received his Ph.D. in Education from the University of California, Berkeley, in Language, Literacy and Culture. Raised in an immigrant household, Dr. Stritikus began his public school teaching experience with Teach For America in Baltimore.
