Educational Leadership & Policy Studies

Students and faculty engage in numerous applied research and service activities, many of them as part of the Area’s Institute for the Study of Educational Policy. The Institute's primary purpose is to promote and conduct interdisciplinary, scholarly inquiry into the structures, processes, and policies, as well as the content and assumptions, that guide educational theory and practice. Founded in 1979-80, the ISEP currently provides administrative (and, in some cases, professional) support for research and service in these major centers:

Taken together, these programs operate on approximately $1.5 million in external support annually. Independently of these EDLPS researchprograms, ISEP coordinates and conducts policy analyses and evaluations designed specifically for school districts, Washington State’s Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the Commission on Student Learning, and other educational agencies.

In addition to the Centers housed within the Area, several of our faculty and students are also associated with the following College institutes and centers
