Educational Leadership and Policy Studies offers programs that provide preparation for scholarship and preparation for professional leadership. Degree options are listed in parentheses.
Organizations and Policy (M.Ed., Ph.D.). This aspect of the Area's program concentrates on the ways educational organizations are designed, operate, and change; the nature and role of leadership, and
its relation to learning and educational improvement; and the implementation and effects of policies (federal, state, or local) aimed at improving the educational system.
Social and Cultural Foundations (M.Ed., Ph.D). The field of social and cultural foundations explores fundamental questions about the meaning, purpose and significance of education in society, using tools of analysis based in liberal arts disciplines such as history and philosophy.
Danforth (Principal certification). The Danforth Educational Leadership program is designed as a one-year, intensive experience with a half time internship. Students work together in a cohort with faculty and mentors from the field to earn a WA state K-12 principal and/or a program administrator certificate and the skills to begin work as leaders in our public schools.
Higher Education (M.Ed., Ed.D.). The Graduate Program in Higher Education prepares students as effective and transformational college and university leaders.
Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership (M.Ed.). The University of Washington College of Education's Master of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership (IAL) is a unique degree program that prepares those who aspire to leadership positions within intercollegiate sports.
Leadership 4 Learning (Ed.D.). Leadership for Learning is a doctoral program comprised of a cohort of practicing educators who aspire to systems-level leadership anchored in principles of social justice in public education.
Master of Education in Instructional Leadership (M.Ed.). The MIL is offered jointly by the areas of Curriculum & Instruction and Educational Leadership & Policy Studies.The MIL degree concentration expands leadership knowledge and skills for experienced teachers, instructional coaches, mentor teachers, cooperating teachers and professional development leaders.
Master's in Education Policy. A faculty that is nationally recognized for their research in policy design and implementation will prepare MEP students for policy careers in a broad array of governmental, advocacy, philanthropic and social service organizations. An intensive intern ship experience will provide MEP students with real-world policy experience and a chance to network with prominent policy professionals.
