Foci and Opportunities for Research On Policy, Organizations, and Leadership

Faculty and students in this stand of EdLPS engage in studies that explore contemporary policy, organization, and leadership issues, related to key problems of practice in schools, school districts, state and national systems of education. Our work as scholars focuses on learning, equity, and renewal in efforts to address major challenges confronting education, among them, efforts to:
  • Transform the high school.
  • Improve instruction and address achievement gaps across a district's schools.
  • Create partnerships that support educational reform
  • Reinvent the central Org Pol Students Talkingoffice of school districts
  • Connect leadership more directly to learning improvement
  • Develop a high-quality teaching workforce and leadership cadre
  • Allocate staff and other resources equitably to struggling schools.
  • Facilitate the access of precollege and postsecondary students to high-quality educational opportunities
  • Develop global and cross-national understanding of persistent international challenges in education

We take special interest in these matters within urban centers and in other settings that serve diverse and often disenfranchised populations

This scholarly work is often done in conjunction with several research centers, especially the Center for the Study of Teaching & Policy, in which a number of d faculty and students are now participating on studies of leadership, district instructional renewal, organizational learning, and the teacher workforce

Other Centers in the College also provide faculty and students with opportunities for research and related activities concerning policy, organization, and leadership, among them, the Center for Educational Leadership and The Center for Multicultural Education.
