Bachelor's degree – Check Prerequisites
Resume – detailing work experience, academic experience, honors, etc.
Goal Statement – 300-400 work (one page) statement detailing interest in the MIT program, goals for becoming a teacher, personal experience, etc). For tips on writing a successful goal statement, click here.
Experience prior to application: a minimum of 60 hours of documented experience (observation and participation) with the age level you wish to teach, in a group instructional setting, within the last 5 years, in a culturally and racially diverse community in the United States. (Classroom experience through EDUC 401, the Pipeline Program may be used.) Document your experience using the Evaluation of Educational Experience.
2 letters of recommendation from academic or professional references (must be from sources other than 60 hours)
Washington Educator Skills Test - Basic (WEST-B). Basic skills competency of all teaching candidates. For dates, locations and to register for the WEST-B, go to www.west.nesinc.com, or go directly to the WEST-B test dates page. Due to West testing limits, it is necessary to register for two test dates for West-B and West-E. Applicants for the September 18th deadline may take the September and November tests. Admission decisions will be held while scores are pending but the application will be reviewed.
West-E - Subject Knowledge Competency Test. For dates, locations, sample tests and registration information for the West-E go to: http://www.west.nesinc.com/index.asp. Elementary applicants will take both subtests for the West-E. Due to West testing limits, it is necessary to register for two test dates for West-B and West-E. 3.0 grade point average from the most recent 90 graded quarter (60 semester) credits.
