UW Courses for Teaching Endorsements

Below is a list of University of Washington coursework required to meet state endorsement competencies.  Contact the individual departments for endorsement evaluations and questions regarding courses.  A minimum of 2.0 is required for each course used toward an endorsement unless set higher by the department. For questions about tuition, course content, academic calendar, and other items of interest to students, visit the UW website, the General Catalog, or the Quarterly Time Schedule.

Biology

Supporting Coursework (15 credits maximum) - CHEM 120, 220, Math 124 or QSci 381

History

70 credits to include:
55 approved credits in History, including one 5-credit course in each of: Broad European History; Broad US History, History of the Pacific Northwest; Nonwestern History (Africa, Asia, or Latin America); upper division (300 or 400 level) undergraduate History Seminar or colloquium in which a major research paper or its equivalent will be written; upper-division (300 or 400 level) Modern European History course (HSTEU, must be on the modern list); and two 5-credit upper-division (300 or 400 level) US History courses. At least 25 of the 55 required History credits must be upper-division (300 or 400 level). At least 10 of the 55 required History credits must be from the pre-modern list. In addition, one 5-credit course from the approved list in each of: American Government; Geography; and Economics are required. A grade of 2.50 or higher in each course is required.

Japanese

Same as Japanese major except the 4th year language series must be JAPAN 421-423 unless the language requirement is waived (as for a native speaker). Also, all candidates must take JAPAN 440. (If any portion of the language requirement for the major is waived, the candidate may substitute an equivalent number of credits of additional Japan-related coursework, as approved by the department, in order to make up the credits needed toward the "language" portion of the major.) ***** 2/99
