Teacher Education Endorsements

An endorsement refers to the specific subject matter you are qualified to teach in Washington State.  Students in the Elementary MIT program earn an Elementary Education endorsement which focuses on grades K-8; students in the Secondary MIT program earn a subject-specific endorsement that covers grades 7-12.

Elementary MIT

Along with earning an Elementary Education endorsement, students will also take some coursework that partially meets content requirements for teacher certification in Special Education and English Language Learnerners (ELL).

If you would like to add a subject specific endorsement, please refer to the Secondary endorsement information below.

Secondary MIT

Applicants need to have their transcripts evaluated to ensure that they have met UW content knowledge requirements in the endorsement(s) they are interested in earning.  A minimum of 2.0 is required for each course used toward an endorsement unless set higher by the department.
