Multicultural Teaching in a Standards-Based Context
July 9-20, 2007

In this course, students will examine politics embedded in the standards movement, as well as grapple with possibilities for multicultural curriculum design. Students will critically analyze curriculum and school practices, traversing ethical and political as well as practical questions. Students will work with a framework for designing multicultural curriculum. The framework emphasizes transformative knowledge and complex thinking, uses a “backward design” planning model, and conceptualizes diversity as both a social asset and an intellectual asset.
