The application process includes 1) completing an application form, 2) submitting a 500-600 word statement of interest in the Noyce Scholarship that addresses the criteria listed below, and 3) two letters of recommendation that can speak to the applicant’s understanding of the discipline of science or mathematics, professionalism, and desire to work with young learners in diverse settings. If the letters of recommendation submitted as part of the application to the Teacher Education Program already address these points, then those letters may also be used for the Noyce application (applicant should indicate if this is the case). In addition to the Noyce application materials, the application documents submitted for admission to the Teacher Education Program will be considered in selecting Noyce Scholars.
Interested individuals should apply simultaneously to the Teacher Education Program and to the Noyce Teaching Scholars Program. Those who have already been accepted into the Teacher Education Program need only to complete the Noyce Teaching Scholarship application.
A first-round selection will be made from these applications, and selected individuals will proceed to the interview stage. Noyce applicants at this stage who have already been accepted into the Teacher Education Program will have separate interviews held in late November or early December. Noyce applicants who move to this stage but have not yet been accepted into the Teacher Education Program will have their interviews conducted at the conclusion of their interviews for the Teacher Education Program, also to be held in late November.
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
Those selected as Noyce Teaching Scholars must maintain high standing throughout the Teacher Education Program, both academically and professionally.
Scholarship recipients are required to work in local (defined as Puget Sound region) high-needs schools for two of the first three years following certification.
Scholarship recipients must participate in all social, professional, and evaluation activities throughout the teacher education program and the subsequent two years of professional teaching.
Scholarship recipients must sign a promissory note, indicating agreement to abide by all the fiscal requirements stipulated by the granting agency.
