The University of Washington actively recruits graduate and professional students from throughout the nation and the world. In order to provide competitive recruitment packages, the University offers a number of graduate service appointments (e.g. Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships, Staff Assistantships, Fellowships, Traineeships). Academic student employees in the College of Education (both domestic and international) receive tuition waivers as well as health insurance coverage for themselves and their dependents. Non-resident domestic students who do not hold graduate service appointments but who are in their second or later year of enrollment, may be eligible to qualify for residency or they may be awarded a non-resident tuition waiver, thereby allowing them to pay in-state tuition.
The College of Education offers teaching, research, and staff assistantship positions are offered to approximately 30 graduate students each academic year. These positions involve a wide range of activities. Primary consideration is usually given to doctoral students with a strong background of successful teaching, research, and/or administrative experience. If you are interested in specifically working on funded research projects, we recommend that you make contact with faculty whose research interests most closely match your own.
To be eligible, students must be admitted by the Graduate School, be enrolled for at least 10 credits per quarter of coursework toward an advanced degree, and maintain a high level of scholarship. As positions become available, specific job descriptions will be posted that may include varying application deadlines as well as more specific criteria.
Appointments are made on a quarterly or annual basis and may be available for renewal. Service to the College requires an average of 20 hours weekly. Appointments provide a monthly salary, a quarterly tuition waiver, and health insurance.

Masters in Instructional Leadership

Basic Function:
The Teaching Assistant for the Masters in Instructional Leadership program supports the program, the Directors and students in the MIL. She/he assists with program research and evaluation activities and provides support to MIL students with field experiences and culminating Masters projects.
General Information about the MIL
The Masters in Instructional Leadership leading to the M.Ed. is jointly offered by Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. The program began in the summer of 2007. Students in the program are primarily practicing teachers who currently hold or are seeking teacher leadership roles within their schools or districts. The program provides them with knowledge and skill development for working with other teachers, understanding educational organizations, developing practical inquiry skills and deepening knowledge in content areas.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
The MIL Teaching Assistant will work an average of 20 hours per week for the academic quarter. The TA will assist the Co-Directors to support and counsel students, handle paperwork, room arrangements, resources, and electronic and paper file development. He/she will assist the directors with creating, copying, and organizing materials for program seminar sessions and may assume some teaching responsibilities in that context. Additionally he/she may gather and manage data on students and the program as needed for evaluation and research. Finally, the TA will assist students in developing their culminating projects including their data collection and analysis activities and writing.
Qualifications
This MIL TA position will most likely be awarded to a doctoral candidate who has experience as a K-12 classroom teacher, a keen interest in and knowledge of in-service teacher education, and the ability to contribute to the development of a new program through systematic inquiry. He/she must be willing to handle a variety of routine tasks necessary to the ongoing program, must write well, and be able to work well with students.
The MIL TA will be appointed for a one quarter term with the possibility of reappointment based on quarterly evaluation and program need.
Requirements: Candidates must be registered for a minimum of 10 credit hours.
