A new collaboration between the UW and the Jordan Education Trust is
helping to cultivate global understanding between educators from Jordan and the U.S. During Summer 2007, five teachers from Jordan and five UW College of Education alumni participated in the program, which included three weeks at UW
followed by three additional weeks in Amman, Jordan. Funding for the Fellowship is provided by a generous gift from the Jordan Education Trust.
While at UW the five Jordanian teachers, each a recipient of Queen Rania’s 2006 Teacher of Excellence Award, joined their U.S. counterparts for a visit to the IslandWood environmental learning center, attended a learning sciences seminar presented by UW’s LIFE Center, and enjoyed a variety of other activities focused on science, math and literacy. Following the Seattle segment, the Jordanian teachers hosted their U.S. colleagues, each of whom teaches at the K-8 level, for three weeks in Amman. During their stay in Jordan, the U.S. teachers visited classrooms for a first-hand view of education in that part of the world.
The Jordan Education Trust was established by Boeing executive Phil Condit and his wife, Geda Maso Condit (’77). Geda Condit, who grew up in Jordan, earned an engineering degree from the UW.
“The Jordan Education Trust Fellowship program is helping the College to strengthen global partnerships in education,” says Dean Pat Wasley. “We are grateful to The Jordan Education Trust for helping us to expand our reach and impact.”
