True compassion is not just an emotional response but a firm commitment founded on reason.
-H.H., the Dalai Lama
The University of Washington welcomes his holiness the Dalai Lama for a five-day visit to Seattle for Seeds of Compassion, an initiative to nurture kindness and compassion in the world, starting with children and those who touch their lives.
The five day visit is an unprecedented gathering, aimed to engage the hearts and minds of our community by highlighting the vision, science,
and programs of early social, emotional, and cognitive learning.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama's personal emissary for Peace, the Venerable Lama Tenzin Dhoden sits down for tea with UW students to discuss matters relating to compassion and how it can be learned and taught.
Inspired by the emphasis on early learning and on the role of teachers in children's lives, UW College of Education Dean Pat Wasley has been very involved with the Seeds of Compassion effort. UW College of Education faculty, students, and alumni will be attending many of the exciting events during the Dalai Lama's visit.
Each of the five days will provide parents, educators, and business and community leaders with opportunities to better understand the real benefits of compassion, and concrete ideas on how to bring compassion into their lives.
