Audrey Osler is Professor of Education and Director of the Centre for Citizenship and Human Rights Education at the University of Leeds, UK. Professor Osler has a well-established reputation for research and teaching in three related fields: international and comparative education; education for human rights, equalities and democratic citizenship; and children’s rights and student participation. She has worked on projects in sub-Saharan Africa and East Asia that were sponsored by several organizations, including UNESCO, the Carter Center, and Amnesty International. Professor Osler is currently completing a European Commission (EC) funded transnational study on citizenship and intercultural learning, and is principal researcher in a second EC funded project examining education for European citizenship. In 1999 she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Among her publications are 16 books, including the award-winning Girls and Exclusion (2003); The Education and Careers of Black Teachers (1997); Teachers, Human Rights and Diversity (2005),and Changing Citizenship: Democracy and Inclusion in Education (2005).
