On January 8, 2008, The College of Education and the
University Bookstore sponsored an appearance by noted author and educator Rafe Esquith.
One of the most respected author/educators in America (and the only school teacher ever to win the president's National Medal of Arts), Rafe has spent the last 25 years changing lives in Room 56. Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire is his newest book, a description of the school day with his fifth graders, and a book full of practical advice for teachers who want to make a difference and work outside the bureaucratic education industry.
The event attracted great interest from the College of Education alumni community, who
responded enthusiastically to the message of hope and optimism in Rafe's writings, work and life.
