Temporal Patterns in Text Production

J. R. Hayes

Carnegie Mellon

In 1980 J. R. Hayes co-authored the most influential modelplay video graphic of the cognitive processes in writing. His initial model was based on adult skilled writers. The Literacy Trek NIH-funded study since 1989 (P.I., Ginger Berninger) modified it for beginning and developing writers in a collaboration with H. L Swanson at the University of California, Riverside. Now Hayes, who is on sabbatical and visiting the UW to consult with the Literacy Trek Project, which over the years has involved Bob Abbott (since 1991) and graduate students in all areas of the College of Education, is working on a model of writing development.
