Stage IV: Understanding Admission Decisions

  • Academic preparation is the most important factor in admission decisions — overall GPA, GRE scores, appropriateness and strength of prior degrees, and writing sample.
  • At the same time, the College has a holistic admission process where are all pieces of the application are taken into consideration; however, the statement of purpose is the most important representation of who you are as an applicant.
  • In addition to the strength of the application itself, the faculty consider the degree to which the interests of the applicants align with the interests and research agendas of the faculty.
  • Another consideration in admission decision is the capacity of each program faculty to take on new advisees.
  • Typically applicants are notified 8-10 weeks after the application deadline.

Stage V: Preparing for Matriculation

  • Review the College of Education’s website and the University of Washington’s website to gather additional information.
  • Contact your assigned advisor (listed in your admission notification) to learn more about her/him and the program.
  • Contact the Office of Student Services with general questions: edinfo@u.washington.edu or 206-543-7834.
