  • Learn about the College’s degree and program offerings and our highly regarded faculty.

  • Contact the Office of Student Services for questions about the College and our degree programs, or questions about the application process: edinfo@u.washington.edu or 206-543-7834.

  • Contact the appropriate Academic Area and/or the specific faculty members for detailed questions about various study options.  Note: it is important to review faculty profiles and scholarly work before contacting them – you will have a more productive conversation.

Stage II: Planning your Application

Stage III: Applying Online

  • Complete the online application via the UW Graduate School.

  • Submit your application materials online (except transcripts) via text entry or document upload.

  • Note the application deadlines.

  • Review and complete financial aid and scholarship applications, if desired.  See details».

Stage IV: Understanding Admission Decisions

  • Admission decisions are made by the faculty in each program.

  • Academic preparation is the most important factor in admission decisions -- overall GPA, GRE scores, appropriateness and strength of prior degrees, and writing sample (where required).

  • At the same time, the College has a holistic admission process where are all pieces of the application are taken into consideration; however, the statement of purpose is the most important representation of who you are as an applicant.

  • In addition to the strength of the application itself, the faculty consider the degree to which the interests of the applicants align with the interests and research agendas of the faculty.

  • An additional consideration in admission decisions is the capacity of each program faculty to take new advisees.

  • Typically applicants are notified 8-10 weeks after the application deadline.

Stage V: Preparing for Matriculation

  • Review the College of Education’s website and the University of Washington’s website to gather additional information.

  • Contact your assigned advisor (listed in your admission notification) to learn more about her/him and the program.

  • Contact the Office of Student Services with general questions: edinfo@u.washington.edu or 206-543-7834.

  • Plan to attend Prospective Student Days in early April 2012.  Watch for more information.

  • Follow the instructions in your letter of admission to submit your tuition deposit!
