The College of Education, through its Faculty Council, distributes a number of scholarships annually. Most of these scholarships are possible through the generous gifts of the alums, friends, faculty and staff of the College of Education.
Only current and incoming College of Education students are eligible for College of Education scholarships. Some scholarships have additional, specific criteria based on the intent of the donor(s). (See list of criteria»).
To be considered for need-based scholarships, students must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the scholarship application deadline. Eligibility regarding need-based financial aid is determined by the FAFSA. When completing the FAFSA, make sure to enter the University of Washington, Code #003798, in Step 6.
International students who have a Social Security number should submit the FAFSA form per the above instructions.
International students who do not have a Social Security number must wait to have financial need evaluated until after their scholarship applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Review Committee. This is done through a separate process. Please note that financial need is not considered in the initial review of scholarship applications.
In past years some students have been awarded more than one of the College’s scholarships. In addition, it is sometimes the case that larger scholarship award amounts are divided and distributed to more than one student.
Scholarships applications will be reviewed in two steps. An initial review will be conducted by faculty from each program area (study option) who will forward the top 20% of their scholarship applicants who received offers of admission to the scholarship review committee. The scholarship review committee consists of faculty members from across the college, a student representative, and a staff representative. Both program faculty and the final review committee will use the above criteria when making decisions.
A similar process will take place for current students, where faculty from each program area (study option) will forward the top 20% of their current student scholarship applicants to the scholarship review committee.
College of Education scholarships are intended to assist incoming students during their first quarters of study; therefore, incoming students are given first consideration by the review committee. Current students will receive consideration in the event that awards are not granted to incoming students.
The application deadline is February 20, 2009. To begin the application process, complete the online Scholarship Application.
Applicants and incoming students note that we will use the following information from your admission application to assist us in the scholarship review process:
