Overview

Institute Title: UW Institute for Science and Mathematics Education

The UW Institute for Science and Mathematics Education was designed to align and share University expertise and resources with K-12 teachers, administrators, and community members to create high-quality, systemic approaches to mathematics and science education for all students. The Institute provides two major services:

  1. Forms an information hub, providing both the UW community and K- 12 community a central directory of programs and resources; and, inquiry-based mathematics and science education programs; and
  2. Nurtures effective partnerships among those who want to promote inquiry-based mathematics and science education programs.

Although the main focus of the Institute is programmatic in nature, the facilitation of collaborations among teachers, content faculty (mathematicians and scientists), and education faculty has brought about new research questions and projects that focus on the nature and process of collaborations among stakeholders representing different academic cultures.
