Welcome to the
Office of Research Support

Research that informs educational policy and practice is central to the mission of the College of Education and constitutes a core responsibility of all faculty. Our research also provides crucial intellectual opportunities and financial support for our students.

The Office of Research Support (ORS) assists COE faculty with (a) development and submission of research grant proposals for external funding; (b) human subjects applications; and (c) compliance with University research-related policies. Specific forms of assistance are described below.

The Associate Dean for Research, Deborah McCutchen (mccutch@u.washington.edu, 616-6307) is the central contact person for questions about research and faculty funding, including advice on:

The College’s grants manager, Louise Clauss (lclauss@u.washington.edu, 616-8291), will help you with:

The College’s grants editor, Laraine Hong (lhong@u.washington.edu, 543-2238) can assist you with:

  • editing - grant proposals (drafts of proposals, or parts of proposals) and other related documents, to assist with readability, sense, fluency, organization, and so forth. It is often helpful to have a knowledgeable, non-expert take a fresh look at a draft.
  • proofreading of your final or near-final draft to check for typos, style consistency, grammar, and anything else you request.
  • drafting shorter, general pieces such as support letters, abstracts, brief descriptions, letters of inquiry. This can include creating boiler-plate descriptions that, with appropriate customizing, can be dropped into other proposals.
  • sifting for potential funding opportunities.

We look forward to working with you. Please don’t hesitate to call any of us if you have questions.
