Degree Completion & Graduation Requirements

How do I Apply to Graduate?

If you plan to graduate in Spring 2022 and you wish to have your name listed in the 2022 University of Washington Commencement Program, you must complete one of the following steps:

Where can I find additional information about degree completion?

If you are a Spring 2022 graduate, refer to the links below for further information about degree completion steps. 

Please note: If you plan to graduate in Summer 2022, information about degree completion will be sent to you at the beginning of Summer quarter.

Will you offer any information sessions about degree completion?

We will host information session for doctoral students (Ph.D./Ed.D.) and Master of Education students (M.Ed.) during the month of April.  Please watch for email announcements from the Office of Student Services.

College of Education Event General Information

Where on campus is the Quad located?

The Quad is located in the north central part of campus.  Our celebration will take place in the northeast end of the Quad, between Miller and Raitt Halls.  You can find a map here.

Is the ceremony really outside?  What if it rains?

  • This year’s ceremony will take place outdoors, regardless of the weather (rain or shine!).  
  • We highly recommend that you check the weather forecast and then plan your attire accordingly. 
  • No umbrellas, please, as they block others' views of the celebration.
  • We will have a few classrooms open inside Miller Hall so that a limited number of people may watch the celebration via livestream. In the event of rain, we will prioritize these spaces for those using wheelchairs or walkers, as well as those with visual impairments.  

What COVID-19 protocols are in place for this event?

  • We strongly recommend and encourage COVID-19 vaccinations before attending.
  • We strongly recommend and encourage the use of face coverings. Masks will be availabe upon request.
  • We recommend and encourage use of the WA Notify smartphone app.
  • We ask that anyone who exhibits symptoms please stay home unless they have tested negative for COVID-19 within the past 48 hours. 
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at several stations throughout the Quad.

When should I arrive?

The start time for our celebration is 9:00am.  We ask graduating students and faculty to arrive no later than 8:15am, and guests to arrive and take their seats by 8:45am.  

Where should I park?

Parking for this and other June 11 on-campus graduation events will require a permit. 

How many guests may I bring?  Do they need tickets?

We do not require tickets for the College of Education celebration, and there are no restrictions on the number of guests you may bring.  

International students may wish to review the ISS's suggestions on inviting family members to visit the U.S. for the celebration, which can be found at the bottom of their website

Will accommodations be provided for persons with disabilities?

The Quad is accessible and we will have a seating area for persons using wheelchairs or walkers who need special assistance or accommodations, as well as individuals with visual impairments. A maximum of two people may accompany the individual needing accommodations into that seating area.  Also please note: we will have a separate area where guests can leave baby strollers.  Please contact the Office of Student Services at if have questions or need assistance. We are happy to help!

Will refreshments be served?

Beverages will be available on the Quad starting at 7:30 AM. Enjoy coffee, tea, and more as we gather together to celebrate. Two campus dining venues, Starbucks Suzzallo and District Market Oak will open at 9:00AM. Food will also be available for purchase at Husky Stadium.   

What is the program for the event?

The first 30-40 minutes of the program includes a welcome from the Dean and brief remarks from student speakers.  This will be following by recognition of the graduates.   

Where can I access the graduation photos?

We made arrangements with a photography company, GradImages, to take individual photos of graduates as their names are called.  These individual photos will be available for purchase after the ceremony.  GradImages will mail and email graduates individual proof galleries.  Once proofs are sent out, graduates can search for the photos on to purchase. 

You can also check out photos taken at graduation on the College of Education's social media channels listed at the bottom of this page.  These photos are not intended for sale and are shared to celebrate graduation.

Will the event be live-streamed on the internet?

We have made arrangements with a vendor to live-stream the event for students and family members who can't attend in person.  You can watch the recording on YouTube

College of Education Event Information for Graduates

Who can walk?

Those students completing their degrees from Summer 2019 through Summer 2022 may participate in the College of Education graduation celebration.

The Office of Student Services already has lists of graduates from Summer 2019 through Winter 2022.

Students who plan to graduate in Spring 2022 and Summer 2022 and wish to have their name listed in the 2022 College of Education Graduation Program should have submitted their graduation information to the Office of Student Services no later than Sunday, May 22.  If you missed this deadline please contact the Office of Student Services.  You will be asked to provide us with your name, your degree, your program of study, your advisor’s name, and the title of your doctoral dissertation (if applicable).

How do I RSVP for the College of Education graduation ceremony?

If you did not complete the online survey prior to May 22, then please contact the Office of Student Services no later than Tuesday, June 7. 

When should I arrive?

The start time for our celebration is 9:00am.  We ask graduating students and faculty to arrive no later than 8:15am, and guests to arrive and take their seats by 8:45am.

What if I arrive late, or need to leave early?

If you arrive late please check in with one of our ceremony staff.  Someone will help you get seated and give you instructions.

In the event that you need to depart from the ceremony early, the optimal time to leave is during (or immediately after) the time your degree group is recognized on stage - simply exit the area in a way that doesn't distract others.  If you need to leave at a different time, please move quietly to the nearest aisle and then away from the stage.

What should I wear?

For graduates and faculty, wearing graduation regalia is encouraged, but not required.  Plan to arrive at Miller Hall dressed in your regalia.  All attendees should note that this year’s ceremony will take place outdoors, regardless of weather.  We highly recommend that you check the weather forecast and then plan your attire accordingly.

Financial aid may be available for graduates who need assistance in purchasing graduation regalia. Please email the Office of Ceremonies at to inquire. 

Can I wear an honor cord or stoll with my regalia?

Yes, we encourage additional regalia pieces that have special meaning to you and/or your family. 

How do I order my graduation regalia?  Where do I pick it up?

Students graduating in the 2021-2022 academic year can order graduation regalia by completing the Registration/Order form at the UW Commencement website.  Regalia can be picked up from the UW Bookstore in late May and early June. 

Students who graduated in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 academic years can order graduation regalia by completing the Registration/Order form at the Return to Husky Stadium website.  

University of Washington Commencement

Where can I find information about the University’s Commencement Ceremony?

The 2022 University of Washington Commencement Ceremony will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, June 11, at Husky Stadium.  For more information, please visit the Commencement website.

For those who completed degrees in 2019-2020 or in 2020-2021, the Return to Husky Stadium Graduation Celebration will take place on Sunday, June 12, at Husky Stadium.
