Professor Missall's research centers on child growth and development from 3 to 8 years of age in the areas of early academic and social development, data-based decision making (MTSS) and school readiness/transition to school.

Professor Missall has a strong interest in the early language, literacy, mathematics and social skill development of preschoolers that predicts healthy and positive school-based experiences. Her work is uniquely interdisciplinary at the intersection of school psychology and early childhood special education, and includes children, families, educators and communities. She has received research funding from the U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences and the National Science Foundation. Professor Missall has published more than 45 peer-reviewed papers, conference proceedings and book chapters, and presented her work more 150 times to a range of audiences on four continents.

Professor Missall supervises several interdisciplinary and community-engaged research projects that offer opportunities for graduate student involvement, learning and mentoring. Currently, she serves as associate editor for the Journal of Early Intervention, on the board of directors for the Imagine Children's Museum in Everett, Wash., and as a consultant for American International Schools around the globe.
