About the Writing Center
The College of Education staffs its Writing Center in partnership with the Odegaard Writing & Research Center (OWRC). Writing tutors are graduate students (many are College of Education students) who receive extensive and ongoing training and also have strong networks with other writing tutors around campus. This has been a productive partnership for several years.
The Writing Center is located in 207 Miller Hall (across from the elevator on the second floor). The phone number is (206) 685-4093.
Scheduling an Appointment
Until the College of Education Writing Center is fully staffed in late October, please schedule time with a tutor in the OWRC's main location (Odegaard Library room 121).
Looking for drop-in writing support?
The Odegaard Writing & Research Center (Odegaard Library room 121) does take drop-in appointments, but sometimes there is a wait until a tutor becomes available. Scheduling an appointment is recommended.
Writing Center Services
The Writing Center can work with you to:
-
Answer your questions about writing
-
Talk through your challenges and/or worries about writing
-
Meet with you to discuss a particular piece of writing
-
Provide space and time for you to focus on your writing
-
Help you brainstorm ideas when you start writing
-
Offer reader feedback on your drafts
-
Connect you with (or create!) resources to help you with writing
What to expect when you come in:
You will sit down with the tutor for 45 minutes and discuss whatever you are working on. The tutor will ask questions to try and understand your goals with the writing, what the assignment is asking for, and what you’d like to focus on during the appointment. The tutor is happy to work with you wherever you are in your process: whether you’ve just gotten the assignment and haven’t written anything, or you’ve finished your third draft.
Other Writing Resources on Campus
The Odegaard Writing & Research Center is available to assist both graduate and undergraduate students with the process of writing, from understanding an assignment to brainstorming and outlining, to drafting and revising. Take time to browse their collection of online resources.
Some academic departments offer writing support services for students taking classes in those departments, including Anthropology, History, & Psychology.
