Professor's paper on equity and leadership most read of 2014

An article written by a University of Washington College of Education professor that offers guidance to school leaders on how to close opportunity and achievement gaps among students has been honored as the most read article of 2014 in the journal Leadership & Policy in Schools.
Professional development that teachers can enact on an everyday basis in their classrooms remains all too rare in today's schools. While nearly all teachers participate in some professional development activity, studies show the vast majority of teachers find it to be worthless.
Teacher Education by Design, a new online community for educators created by the University of Washington College of Education, seeks to change that status quo by engaging teachers in a cycle of continuously learning about and improving their practice.

Why teach? Educators today are under more pressure than ever before. Standards are changing, schools are growing, and the pay isn’t getting any better. Even so, talented and passionate individuals are still pursuing the profession, and veteran educators continue their work despite all the challenges.
The University of Washington College of Education, Seattle Times and 88.5 KPLU will present a teacher storytelling event on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. in Kane Hall 220 on the UW campus.

David Stroupe '13 has been honored by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education for publishing the nation's most outstanding doctoral dissertation during the past year, honoring his research on ambitious teaching practice while at the University of Washington College of Education.
