We are thrilled to announce 21 finalists for the first-ever Road Map Project Awards Program! Coach Across America, an innovative capacity-building program from the Up2Us organization that trains and places coaches in sports-based youth development organizations around the country, is set to grow its numbers in Seattle in the coming year. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has named urban school authority and reform advocate Tom Payzant as the chair of its Board of Trustees. New Visions for Public Schools President Robert Hughes and Tom Stritikus, dean of University of Washington’s College of Education, were also elected as trustees for four-year terms. All took office at the Foundation’s annual Board meeting in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 14.

Dr. Jennifer Lindsay: Director, Elementary Teacher Education

Jennifer Lindsay joins the College as the newly appointed Director of the Elementary Teacher Education Program. Previously, Lindsay directed the Elementary Education Master in Teaching Program at Brown University. She has worked as a public school teacher, most recently at a project based, teacher-led school in San Francisco, where she worked in collaboration with bay area teachers and the National Equity Project on action research projects, focused on classroom practice.

The Collaborative Schools for Innovation and Success (CSIS) project is a state-funded partnership between the College of Education and Roxhill Elementary school in Seattle. Last year, CSIS provided an opportunity for teachers and researchers to plan the ambitious collaboration. The 3DL Partnership, co-directed by Professor Leslie Herrenkohl in the College of Education and Professor Todd Herrenkohl in the School of Social Work, supported a mission and vision process that resulted in an Innovation Plan approved and funded by the state.

Dr. Kara Jackson joins the college as an assistant professor.

Dr. Kara Jackson joins the college as an assistant professor. She specializes in middle-grade mathematics teaching and learning. Jackson received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. Most recently she was on faculty at McGill University, where she received the McGill University Faculty of Education Heather Reisman and Gerald Schwartz Award for Excellence in Teaching.
