UW faculty, students honored at AERA

The outstanding scholarship of UW College of Education faculty and alumni will be recognized during next month's American Educational Research Association meeting in Chicago.

Those being recognized include:

Megan Bang — Recipient of both the AERA Division K (Teaching and Teacher Education) Early Career Award and the Bobby Wright Award for Early Career Contributions to Research in Indigenous Education.
Katie Lewis — Recipient of the Early Career Publication Award of the Research in Mathematics Education SIG for her paper "Difference not Deficit: Reconceptualizing Mathematical Learning Disabilities," published in the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education.
Maresi Nerad — Winner of the Outstanding Publication Award from the Doctoral Education Across the Disciplines SIG for Globalization and Its Impacts on the Quality of PhD Education. The Award Committee noted the book's success in integrating considerations of doctoral education from more than a dozen national contexts and in addressing diverse issues and stakeholders. College of Education graduate Emma Flores co-wrote a chapter and doctoral students Roxana Chiappa, Ziyan Bai and Jim Pridgin collaborated with Nerad in the editorial process. Award presentation April 19 at 6:15 p.m. in Swissotel Event Centre First Level, Zurich C.
Walter Parker — Named to AERA's 2015 Class of Fellows in honor of his significant contributions in the field of civic education.
Elise St. John '14 — Winner of the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Mixed Methods Research SIG for "Understanding the Factors that Influence the Grouping and Assignment of Students to Elementary Classrooms."
