Christian (he/him/his) is the graduate staff assistant for the Riverways Education Partnerships and a sixth-year higher education doctoral candidate in the College of Education with a passion for understanding the experiences of first-generation Black male students, equity-minded transformational leadership, community development, and cultivating an inclusive campus environment for students. Born and bred from Detroit, Michigan, he attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where he studied psychology with a minor in Afroamerican and African Studies. Before starting his master’s degree program in the autumn of 2014 at the University of Washington, Christian served with City Year Seattle/King County as an 8th grade mentor and tutor at a south Seattle middle school. In his spare time, Christian enjoys ballroom dancing with his wife Ester, reading and singing to his newborn daughter Elise, volunteering, watching movies, and playing sports (i.e. basketball, football, soccer, ultimate frisbee).
