Real name:
Enrique "Henry" Suárez

Post-doctoral Research Associate

Miller Hall, LIFE Center

Enrique works in partnership with K-12 schools and community hubs to make science learning more equitable for learners from historically underserved communities. Specifically, Enrique’s research focuses on designing learning environments that create opportunities for elementary-aged emerging multilingual students to leverage their conceptual resources and translanguaging practices when making sense of the natural world . Additionally, Enrique has extensive experience teaching elementary science methods courses for pre-service teachers, co-designing and co-facilitating professional development for K-12 science teachers, and developing physics-based K-12 curriculum. He received his PhD on Curriculum & Instruction - Science Education in 2017. Enrique was trained as an astrophysicist, and did cosmology research for five years, before choosing a career in K-5 science education. He grew up in Venezuela, has lived in all continental time zones of the US, and enjoys cooking Arepas and baking for friends and family.
