Elementary and Secondary MIT students have the option of adding additional endorsements via Pathway 1, 2 or 3. In addition, MIT student can also go through one of the specialized options in English Language Learners (ELL), special education, or reading. ELL — Secondary Teacher Education Program
Required courses and practicum, along with the WEST-E, are completed in spring quarter following completion of the Master in Teaching degree.
ELL — Elementary Teacher Education Program
Required courses and practicum, along with the WEST-E, are completed in summer quarter following completion of the Master in Teaching degree.
Special Education — Secondary Teacher Education Program
Students can increase their capacity to teach students with disabilities by earning the special education endorsement. You will complete 21 credits, beginning in winter quarter and finishing in summer. All coursework will have required field-based components as well as evening/weekend seminar opportunities and online learning opportunities. You will work on your individually predetermined competencies each quarter.
Special Education — Elementary Teacher Education Program
You can complete an additional academic year of coursework and practicum experience in order to add the special education endorsement. Because you have elementary curriculum expertise and special education instructional knowledge, you will be deeply prepared to teach all types of students and meet the federal Highly Qualified Teacher requirements for elementary special education teachers.
Reading — Elementary Teacher Education Program
Students who successfully complete the ELTEP program can enroll in coursework and practicum experiences beginning summer quarter and continuing through autumn and winter of the following academic year. You will participate in a four-week summer quarter program of coursework and supervised practicum experience. Extending through autumn and winter quarters, you will participate in reading practicum experiences, attend monthly endorsement seminars, and will be supported and observed three times in your classroom as a follow-up to your endorsement work. Course activities during the summer will be held onsite at a public school. During autumn and winter, monthly seminars will be held on the University of Washington campus and will be scheduled to accommodate teachers' work schedules as much as possible.
