Through grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and JPMorgan Chase and in collaboration with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and the Seattle Regional Partnership, a team of UW researchers is conducting research that investigates the Central Puget Sound region's capacity for increasing the number of local adults who can access higher education and move on to secure the great jobs this region has to offer. The research includes regional-level data and information from three sectors: Puget Sound-based employers, regional higher education institutions (voc/tech, 2-year, and 4-year), and student/job-seeker population data (K-12 students, adult re-enterers, veterans, students, partial degree completion adults). Results of this study are intended to inform leaders from the public and private sectors in this region in regards to current, as well as future workforce (and therefore, higher education credentialing) needs, and preliminarily assess options for growing higher education capacity in the region. Employment Projections Dashboard

The Employment Security Deparment (ESD) Employment Projections provide job seekers, policy-makers and training providers an idea of how the number of jobs and annual potential income are expected to change over time. There are 3 dashboard views, each based on the projection method used to determine average annual openings:

  • Replacements - workers who leave an occupation and are replaced by workers from different age cohorts are considered to have permanently left and are identified as generating replacement openings.
  • Separations - workers who exit the labor force or transfer to an occupation with a different Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) are identified as generating separations openings.
  • Alternative State Specified - calculated as the shares of total transfers, minus growth or decline, divided by estimated occupational employment for a base period.
