Position Description

Special Education Teacher

Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Employment Type: Full-Time, 37.5 hours/week

Pay: $2,500/week


Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team in Anchorage, Alaska. This role involves providing individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have access to a high-quality education in a safe and inclusive environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Adapt curriculum and teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, school psychologists, counselors, and support staff to create inclusive classroom environments.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student goals, progress, and strategies for success.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with state and federal regulations related to special education.
  • Foster a positive, supportive classroom atmosphere that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification with Special Education endorsement in any state, with the ability to apply for the AK Type C Certification
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with assistive technology and adaptive instructional strategies.
  • Familiarity with behavioral intervention plans and positive behavior supports.
  • Cultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
