Selma Powell is the Director for the Special Education Teacher Education Program at the University of Washington. I began my career as an elementary special education teacher in Tampa, Florida and later moved to Orlando, Florida. She worked in public schools for nine years. I had the opportunity to teach students with disabilities from preschool through fifth grade and kindergarten and first grade general education. Additionally, I worked at the district office as a Staffing Resource Specialist supporting teachers. Most recently, I was the director of a Race to the Top grant, RTP3 – Resident Teacher Professional Preparation Program. She served as the special education expert in a residency model teacher preparation program for secondary Science and Mathematics teachers. Her research interests are special education teacher preparation and induction.
